15 days to a simpler home

I don't know about you, but right after Halloween is over, I feel like I only have a few weeks of {semi} calm left before all the holiday-craziness ensues.  So, with that feeling of needing to be prepared and wanting to actually enjoy the holidays, it is necessary to get our house to a place of simplicity.
A place where everything has a home so that anyone in the family can clean up.  A place where you only do a few cleaning chores everyday, and there is no massive, stressful cleaning weekend right before the in-laws arrive.  A place where you can actually enjoy all those wonderful holiday moments with your family (and all the other months of life!).  With that being said, I have been purging, de-cluttering, and getting organized so that we can have a simpler home, and in turn, a simpler life.

It has given me the most amazing feeling of calm, and the ability to focus on things that matter most.  Things like my husband, our family, our friends, my relationship with God.  If i'm so focused on Me-Me-Me, or all the things "I have to get done" all the time, how will he be able to work through me?

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
1 Timothy 6:10

Getting rid of so much of the extra stuff we don't need in our lives is essential to simple living.  It allows us to get the work done quicker so we can get back to the important things in life. Now, I'm not saying get rid of everything in your house that isn't essential, or that cleaning isn't important.  I actually believe that having a home that you love and that you are comfortable in is important as well.  It's just all the extra stuff that we don't even actually care about, that's taking up space and doesn't have a purpose that is the problem.
As I'm going on this journey, I want to share it with you, and maybe inspire you along the way.  I will spend the next 15 days going through my home and showing you what isn't necessary in our life, and how to simply organize the house so that life is easier for everyone.  Want to join me?
