I know I keep saying this, but I REALLY am close to finishing the guest room, and finishing this piece was a big step towards completion. I really love bright accent pieces, but Matthew isn't as big of a fan. So I decided to do a bright pink dresser in the guest room.
Check that out! I love it! The color is Behr Bright Black Raspberry and looks a bit darker in person.
The greatest part about this project is that I didn't spend very much money at all. I already had the dresser, and actually re-furbished it originally back in 2007. You can see it in this picture of what our bedroom used to look like:
This dresser was from my parent's house and I actually really liked it black, but I was ready for a change.
Then, I bought two samples of the paint at Home Dept ($2.94/each) and used some leftover gray paint from other projects for the inside of my drawers.
I also did one drawer with a chevron pattern painted inside. I think it's really cute, but this one drawer seriously took me 1.5-2 hours to finish, between stenciling in the pattern and hand painting. I think it would have been easier if I had a paint pen. What do you think? Is it worth it?
The best part about this dresser for me is the hardware. I wanted to do crystal/clear drawer pulls because the guest room is on the feminine side and the rest of the house really isn't. I wanted to keep with this and found beautiful hardware at Home Depot. However, those drawer pulls were $4/each. I really didn't want to spend $40 on hardware right now, so I held off.
Then, the other day I was at Michaels (oh, Michaels!) and found these pulls for 50 cents each! 5 Dollars TOTAL! I was over the moon, but the Longmont store only had 8, so I had to drive to Boulder for the others.
So there is my awesome new dresser!
P.S. Check out this cute little dragon I found at Target! On Clearance for $2.48! I'm not quite sure if he goes in this room, but this is his home for now.
