The first weekend we moved in, I immediately got the closet organized. I truly believe that being organized is the key to less stress in your life. It makes finding these easier, cleaning easier, and all around just makes life calmer. Also, I'm a little particular about where things are in my house, so it is a must!
Here is what we started with:
See the waste of space where those shoes and laundry baskets are?
Blah white walls. I wanted to create a space that would show off my pieces and inspire.
And that wasted space there! Wait until you see :)
So, the first thing we did was paint the closet. We have a wonderful walk-in closet, and I wanted to make the closet feel like a room. We painted it the same color as the bedroom.
Already so much better! Then, I seriously sat in this closet for like an hour measuring and drawing up different plans for what I could do to maximize the space. Keep in mind, the rest of my house is in a state of disaster...boxes everywhere, so my fiance was thinking I was nuts. So then I came up with my plan, and we went to Wal-Mart and Home Depot and got to work.
First up was storage for my shoes. I saw This Post - "Rack 'Em Up" on Pinterest a few months ago, and thought it was genius. So I bought some molding for a few dollars, painted it teal, and up on the walls it went (the walls look really strange orange in this picture, but I promise they are not!).
Then I purchased a 3' bookshelf and shoe shelf from Wal-Mart, and a wall shelving set at Home Depot. Here's what we ended up with:
See how we used the vertical space to our advantage?
Blue bins we already had for socks and underwear.
This is my favorite corner of the closet. So organized with all my shoes and everything!
See the foot stool? Pop of leopard, and a place to sit down.
There are those shoes!

Our closet is one of my favorite places in the house, and I'm so happy with how it turned out.
